Course Description:

Human Biology is a study of the structure and function of the human body. The course con­sists of class work and laboratory ex­ercises. The foc­us of the class work is on the var­ious systems of the human body while the labo­ratory ex­ercises are designed to comple­ment the class work.

 

General Course Objectives:

The general academic objectives of the course are as follows:

  1.  To become familiar with the basics of the gross and cellu­lar anatomy of the human body as manifest in the sys­tems of the body.

  2.  To develop an understanding of basic human phys­iology.

  3   To acquire a basic vocabulary ­of terms associated with the structure and function of the human body.

 

In addition to the above objectives for this course, there also are transferrable skills objectives. After completion of Human Biology, a student should be able to:

  1.  Generate ideas and synthesize results.

  2.  Understand the creative process (planning, experimenting, implementing, and evalu­ating).

  3.  Ask relevant questions.

  4.  Distinguish among fact, opinion, and judgment.

  5.  Understand and apply the Scientific Method.

  6.  Interact and cooperatively work with others.

  7.  Demonstrate skills in oral and written communication

  8.  Demonstrate skills in library and Internet literacy.
