     Biological Science is an introduction to the science of biolo­gy. It is a project based course that centers on principles of biological organization from molecules through cells and or­ganisms. This is a  course designed to satisfy science requirements for liberal arts and busi­ness stu­dents.

 

The general, biological content, objectives for students in this course are as follows:

    1. To develop a basic understanding of cell structure and physiology.

    2. To develop a basic understanding of the principles of genetics and heredity.

    3. To develop a basic understanding of the principles of evolutionary theory.

    4. To develop an understanding of basic ecological principles and to relate them to    

           current environmental problems.

 

In addition to the above objectives for this course, there also are transferrable skills objectives. After completion of Biological Science, a student should be able to:

   1.   Generate ideas and synthesize results.

   2.   Recognize and use multiple ways of thinking.

   3.   Understand the creative process (planning, experimenting, implementing, and evaluating).

   4.   Ask relevant questions.

   5.   Develop competency in reading basic texts.

   6.   Distinguish among fact, opinion, and judgment.

   7.   Understand and apply aspects of the Scientific Method.

   8.   Interact and cooperatively work with others.                                                         

   9.   Demonstrate skills in oral and written communication.

 10.  Demonstrate skills in library and Internet literacy.
