Tutor Training Options

Students interested in working in our Learning Resource Center (LRC) at Holy Cross College should fill out an application to be a peer tutor in The Writing Center or The Math Center.  Teacher or advisor recommendation is required, as is a minimum overall GPA and a higher minimum GPA in the area in which you will tutor.  You may access an application to print off and fill out by clicking on the button above.

Students who wish to become peer tutors are encouraged to attend our tutor-training sessions.  They are typically offered in the late afternoons or evenings, and are provided at no cost.

When a student successfully completes nine hours of training and evaluation, along with minimum requirements of actual tutoring time, he will be granted International Tutoring Certification, Level I from the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) www.crla.net.  This certification is recognized at many four-year colleges and universities throughout our country.

Each semester, there are some students who would like to tutor math in the LRC but are unable to fit the tutor-training sessions into their schedules.  These students are individually provided with a handbook and adequate personal training, and are monitored closely for progress.  They will receive a Holy Cross College Certificate of Recognition at semester’s end, but cannot earn CRLA certification.
