Possible questions for portfolio for chapter 5

    1.  Pick a situation or recurring situation that you notice in detail (such as the particular
         patterns of interaction at dinner, for example) and describe the situation.  In the first
         paragraph describe the situation using high-level abstractions that have positive
         connotations.  Underline the abstrations.
         Write a second paragraph about the same situation, this time using high-level abstractions
         with negative connotations.  Underline the abstractions.
         Write a third paragraph about the same situation.  This time try to lower the level of abstraction
         for all the words you found you underlined in paragraphs 1 and 2.
        Summarize what you learned about your use of abstract language at the end of this.

    2.  Discuss how language has shaped and reflected the attitudes and behaviors in this
         relationship.

    3.  Using the information on gender difference in the use of language, discuss your relationship.
         Does the sex roles play a difference in the use of language.

    4.  Using "I" language, restate some problems (at least 2) that could be clarified and discussed
         to reach a solution.

CULTURE

    1.  Does this culture have a high or low context language.
        a.  Explain how you know this and give examples of this.
        b.  Discuss how this language difference can affect a relationship.

    2.  Does this culutre and its use of language affect gender relationships and business interactions.
         Give at least 5 examples.
