1.  The student will be able to:   Speak effectively.

The student will learn this skill by:  delivering 5 extemporaneous speeches that are clear, simple,
    and logical.

I will assess this by: grading the actual presentation of speeches.  There will be a videotaped
self-analysis sbased upon criteria published in syllabus, the textbook and on the website.

The evidence of the student's skill achievement is: A grade of "C" or above on the individual
speeches that are extemporaneous, structured correctly and delivered with confidence.

    structure including a thesis statement.

I will assess this by:  Grading the outlines for individual speeches that are susbmitted at the
time of the speech.  Each presentation must fulfill the criteria for an effective oral presentation.
Quizzes will be given over the course of the semester.

The evidence of the student's skill achievement is:  The actual outline that is submitted and it
receives a grade of "C" or above.  A grade of 75% or above on the quizzes.  The deliverance
of the speech earning a grade of "C" or above.

aids.  They will be able to analyze audiences according to demographics.

I will assess this by:  Quizzes.  By submitted exercises on introductions, conclusions,
topic development based upon demographic analysis.  The speeches will present materials
that are new and interesting and at the knowledge and understanding level of the target
audience.  The speeches will gain the attention of the audience members and not offend.

the exercises that are assigned in the course and from the website.  That the actual speeches

target audience and gain their attention and interest.  And the quizzes earn a grade of 75 or above.

The student will learn this skill by:  Submitting a typed evaluation of an outside speaker.  Give
appropriate feedback to the speaker.  Evaluate information presented as accurate and credible.

I will assess this by:  the evaluation of an outside speaker that is submitted for grading.  The
appropriate feedback given to the individual speeches.  And by listening to the speeches
    presented in the classroom.

The evidence of the student's skill achievement is:  The evaluation of an outside speaker

and support materials are appropriate for the particular audience and matches the criteria as
published in the textbook, in the syllabus and on the website and discussed in lecture.  All the
speeches must by researched with information from credible sources, having an appropriate

of presentation.  A bibliography is included in the outline and is from credible and recent sources.
Source materials are cited in the actual presentation.  The audience understands the language
and reasoning.  And ultimately, the feedback is positive.
