Week 1
Jan 15-19 Overview of course
Resumes
and cover letters have a copy of
your current resume and a cover letter for an employment position in your
field. Make sure that you have researched
the company and the position that you are applying for. This company, or
product that it produces, or a brand that it represents will be the subject of
your first informative presentation.
Dressing
for success This will include an appropriate dress for the workplace
sketchbook to be submitted at the end of week 2.
This
should represent what you will actually wear for an interview and everyday
employment at your chosen place of business.
Due
January 26, a two page typed paper in which you interview a human relations
representative of a corporation, school, WorkForce
Development, Outsourcing (someone in the public domain other than Tim Ryan).
The question format is in the syllabus.
Any written assignment not submitted
on time will be assessed 5 late points for each day late. This will include days we do not have class
and weekends.
Week 2 Making
Presentations chapter 15. Each student must

give a 5 minute informational presentation on a product, a brand, or a company.
Presentation is recorded and
evaluated. A 2-page evaluation of both the informative and persuasive
presentation will be submitted at the end of week 6.
These
two weeks (week 2 and 3) will consist of learning how to give effective
presentations.
Workplace
sketchbook on appropriate attire for interviewing and work is due Jan. 26.
Week 3 Informative
Presentations chapter 15. Each student must

Week 4 Work Relationships,
chapter 7
Feb 5-9 Friday, Feb 9, Mr. Ryan
will discuss work relationships and keeping your job. Continuation of Informative Presentations
Week 5 Principles
of Interviewing, chapter 8
Feb 12-16 A
discussion of the principles of interviewing will be conducted by Mr. Ryan on
Monday, Feb 12.
Begin
individual taped interviews.
Interviews
in Business setting
All
interviews are conducted on a one-on-one basis outside of the general
classroom. All interviews are taped and
a self-critique is submitted. Arrangements will be made with Tim Ryan as to
place etc Proper
attire, resume, cover letter and thank you letter are to be submitted at time
of mock interview. Classes will take
place unless otherwise notified.
Week
6 Persuasive
Presentations Chapter 10,
Argumentation in Groups and Chapter 11, Motivation in Groups are to be
read. Each student must give a 5 minute
persuasive presentation.
Feb
19-23 Presentation is
taped, evaluated, and submitted. Chose a
cause that you wish your audience to donate to, volunteer for, or contribute in
some way to benefit this cause. Questions
and Answers from the group are to be presented. This will give experience
on answers questions presented at Capstone.
Sketchbook
on appropriate attire for interviewing and work is due on Friday
Week
7 10
Feb
26 March 2 Presentations: students will teach each chapter as if
they are giving a business presentation to a group of company members. Depending on chapters, each group of students
will have two 50 minute periods to present the information. These will include business attire, use of
visual aids or computer generated graphics, and business style presentations. Each presentation will be taped and
evaluated.

fictitious meeting will be planned, information sent out announcing meeting
etc.

7 will be catch-up day if necessary.
Week
12 15 Chapter 11 Decision Making
and Problem solving in Groups
This will include two taped group conflict management
projects. These meetings will involve
problem solving based on a situation that will be given to the group at the
beginning of each meeting. The project
will be graded based on evaluation of team and outside evaluators.
Final Monday, May 7, at 12:30. A comprehensive final exam will be given at
this time.
