A Man For All Seasons

A Dialogue of Comfort Against Tribulation

Paper Assignment:

Imagine yourself as a friend of St. Thomas More in 16th century England. More is being held in the Tower of London and it looks like his execution is inevitable. You know and understand his situation well. You also know that he is particularly anguished because his family, who he loves very much, is trying hard to persuade him to take the oath.

Write him a 1.5 – 2 paged letter (12 point Times New Roman font – single spaced; margins = 1.25 inches on left and right, 1 inch on top and bottom) in which you apply the advice that Anthony gives to Vincent in the first 86 pages of  A Dialogue….

In other words, using More’s own advice in A Dialogue…, send him a letter of comfort and encouragement.  Do not reference More’s book – pretend it had not been written.

Based on your viewing and reading of A Man For All Seasons you should be familiar with his situation. Your familiarity with his situation should be evident in your writing.

The normal standard of excellence in form will apply to this paper. You will turn in your paper on Thursday, March 24th. We will read them aloud in class.

All the best to you as you work on this assignment.
