Students are able to craft their own service work in consultation with the Mission Team leaders. In the interest of good academics, some students may only be able to do very little. In addition to the service work listed below, they are a myriad of service opportunities within campus ministry, orchestrating and organizing weekly CM events, liturgies, and services.
Antioch Youth Ministry (10-14 students)
Antioch is a youth ministry program based in Mishawaka, Indiana. We need Mission Team members to help produce the “Antioch Nights” and especially act as small group leaders and mentors for the high school kids. Antioch meets on Sunday evenings before our 9:00 student Mass.

Saint Adalbert’s “Take 10” Program (8 students)
This is a mentoring and violence prevention program for local youth. Take 10 has received national attention as a model to help kids graduate high school (right now, the South Bend graduation rate is only 52%.) and avoid gangs and going to jail.
You would sign up as a team and do all your service together. This program is extremely well-run and your task would be clear: teaching the kids classes on conflict resolution and good decision-making and how these relate to our Catholic faith. St. Adalbert’s welcomes male and female volunteers, but really need male mentor figures for the boys.
The program is directed by Kim Overdyck at the Robinson Community Learning Center: 631-9424.

This is a crisis pregnancy center, offering pregnancy tests and supportive services for women who may have little support. The contact is Ellen Sommers at 234-0363

This is a place where the working poor, as well as others, can come to have practical problems solved. Volunteers work with each person and try to help with their situations.
